Orrick

Portland, Oregon

In 2008, GBD completed a new corporate office for the international law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP (Orrick). Located on the second floor of the Blitz-Weinhard Brewhouse Tower in Portland’s famous Brewery Blocks, the office is approximately 10,000 sq. feet.

Designers chose salvaged, non-living Manzanita branches from northern California for the main lobby (in honor of one of Orrick’s clients, a Native American tribe from Oregon). Traditionally, this tribe burned wood from Manzanita trees because it gives off the least amount of smoke.

Additional unique highlights in this office include: the reception desk made from Durapalm, a coconut palm tree wood product; layout tables made from salvaged high school bleachers; and, pendant light fixtures produced by Dané Murphy Design.

The office was designed using low-VOC paints and coatings, as well as green materials, finishes and furnishings.
