Les Schwab Retail
Various LocationsGBD was tasked in designing and implementing a fresh prototype for Les Schwab Tire Centers; to be used at several retail locations around the Western United States.
The primary design objectives used to develop the prototypes included:
- Creating a standardized, efficient concept that makes up an overall kit of parts;
- Providing a design that could be flexible, while maintaining consistency, in order to be successfully used on a variety of different sites; and
- Improving the overall showroom experience.
We designed a prototype series that consists of two layout variations that each have the ability to flex into a larger configuration depending on the particular site. Stores range in size from 10,000 to 12,000 sq. feet. Each store includes a showroom with ancillary spaces, service bays, a warehouse, and a site tailored vehicular traffic and parking configuration.
Sustainable design features include: natural daylighting, 15-foot-tall, high-efficiency windows; operable windows; recycled rubber flooring and building materials; low-flow fixtures; and drought tolerant landscaping. The stores’ high-performance design helps optimize employee functions and is comfortable for customers, enhancing the overall customer experience.
Through the new design, strategic use of signage, and integration of their corporate history we emphasized the company’s brand and overall commitment to quality. The first prototype stores were completed in September 2012 in Oregon, Colorado and California, and continue to be developed as Les Schwab continues to expand.
